How can we help you...

Access to Information

There are three key pieces of legislation which provide a right of access to recorded information held by Aberdeen City Council:

Information can be accessed using these different regulations, which all work together to provide you access to information held by us. Aberdeen City Council also maintains a publication scheme which sets out the types of information that we already make available. Please click on the link in the box

Any request for information held by Aberdeen City Council is technically a Freedom Of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA) request in the first instance.

However, if part or all of the information requested is personal information, and you are the subject of the request, then this is handled under the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA).

In addition certain types of information are dealt with under the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 (EIRs). Aberdeen City Council aims to provide you with as much information as possible, when dealing with your request.

From January 2013, Aberdeen City Council publishes all responses to requests handled under FOISA and the EIRs in our Disclosure Log which is maintained and updated by the Access to Information Compliance Team. Please click on the link in the box to access our Disclosure Log.
