Noise from Construction Sites

Construction sites within Aberdeen City are a necessary factor for the growth and development of the city. Construction activities can be noisy and may cause disturbance to people in their homes or businesses nearby.

If a complaint is raised the Council will seek to agree, with the site operator, a set of voluntary restrictions on the time during which the site is allowed to operate noisy equipment. These are usually:

  •  Monday to Friday: 07:00 19:00
  • Saturday: 08:00 13:00
  • Sunday: No noisy work audible at the site boundary

If, however, operators fail to adhere to the agreed times, then enforcement powers may be used to enforce the necessary restrictions.

Sections 60 and 61 of the Control of Pollution Act 1974 enable the Council to impose conditions on the way in which work is carried out on construction sites in order to limit the noise impact on the surrounding premise

If you have a complaint about construction site noise, contact Environmental Health and Trading Standards, using the contact details below.
