Development Plan
The development plan currently consists of the Structure Plan and Local Development Plan. The purpose of the Development Plan is to set the framework for new developments, and planning applications are assessed against the provisions (land allocations and policies) of the development plan.
Structure Plan
The Aberdeen City and Shire Structure Plan covers the geographical areas covered by Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire Councils excluding the Cairngorms National Park. The Structure Plan plays a key role in guiding development over the next 25 years. Structure Plan was approved in August 2009.

Local Development Plan
The Aberdeen Local Development Plan 2012 was adopted in February 2012. The Aberdeen LDP provides a land use framework until 2030 and aims towards Aberdeen being a sustainable city at the heart of a vibrant and inclusive North East of Scotland:
