Yangyu Wang studied computer science at university before working in the art department of IT companies and taking adult education classes in art. This is the first time his work has been exhibited.
The portrait is of Lin Deng whom the artist met in a hospital waiting room in Beijing when accompanying his mother for a medical appointment. The artist was aware of how many people need to travel great distances in order to attend medical facilities in major towns and cities, often far from home. He felt sympathy and respect for the people he met in difficult circumstances and asked if he could make reference sketches and photographs to enable him to create the finished portrait.
