Hongshu Lei undertook a BA at Xiamen University, Xiamen, Fu Jian Province, China and recently completed an MFA at the Academy of Art University, San Francisco, United States. Her work has been seen in group shows and a solo exhibition in San Francisco.
The portrait is of a couple the artist saw at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. She says: ’What attracted me the most was the way they accompanied each other. Although they were sitting together, they each paid attention to what they were interested in. I saw two individual worlds in the front of me and this reminded me that two fgures can express “solitude” as well as company.’
