The sitter is a young man of African heritage who has Albinism, an inherited condition resulting in a lack of pigmentation in the eyes, skin and hair. The artist met the sitter while on a trip to Kenya where he found that those with Albinism may be persecuted or regarded as sacred because of their appearance which can be equally dangerous for their personal safety as passers-by attempt to touch them or take items of their clothing as lucky charms.
