These relaxed dementia-friendly sessions bring people together to share stories and be part of a community. Linked to our collections, these sessions offer chances to explore our exhibitions, learn more about our city, handle real museum objects and reminisce. No need to book, just turn up and join in. All welcome. 

This season Our Aberdeen takes place at Aberdeen Art Gallery and Aberdeen Treasure Hub.

 

Thursday 28 March
Art Gallery
Discover famous sons and daughters of the Granite City and handle objects associated with them including drawings by Bill Gibb, John Brown’s hip flask and a medal won by all-round athlete Donald Dinnie.

 

Thursday 11 April
Treasure Hub
We’ll be going behind the scenes at Aberdeen Treasure Hub to explore items made in Aberdeen, including garments from Crombie Mills and household ceramics from Seaton Pottery.

 

Thursday 25 April
Art Gallery
Get your hands-on history with one of our Treasure Boxes featuring a Victorian mourning brooch, an ear trumpet and an artwork by contemporary artist Christine Borland.

 

Thursday 9 May
Treasure Hub
Explore the What’s Your Treasure? exhibition and the treasures that lie within, selected by pupils from Northfield Academy. This diverse mix features toys, ceramics, costume and a range of artworks from Scottish artists including Dr Alan Davie, Rachel Maclean and Mary Armour.

 

Thursday 30 May
Art Gallery
We’re exploring the 'Balmoral Phenomenon' exhibition through artworks, objects and costume. See Victoria and Albert in all their tartan finery, enjoy Balmoral Castle, the highland landscape and witness a historic flash flood at Glenfeshie.

 

Thursday 13 June
Treasure Hub
Get your hands-on history as we serve up a range of objects for you to get up close and personal with, including a police truncheon, Victorian postal order, bus conductors hats and ticket machine.

 

Thursday 27 June
Art Gallery
We’ll explore artworks and objects from our exhibition 'View of Aberdeen'. Find out what the city means to local people and share your own stories about life, work, home and place.
