Our Childrens Homes

Our Childrens Homes

Our Residential Practitioners support the delivery of recovery-based care to children and young people from around 12 years to those in their earlier twenties. We have three main houses and one additional city-based resource. Our homes are centrally located and easily accessible by public transport with each home having access to their own SUV. Houses are maintained and presented to a high standard reflecting our investment in physical environments which promote a sense of care and relaxation.

As part of our commitment to create environments which promote safe child development, all staff have been inducted in the principles of Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy and are supported in the development of their therapeutic practice by our full time Clinical Practitioner. Utilising this model, as a keyworker, you would have the opportunity and responsibility to directly shape the care plans for young people. Care planning is closely aligned with wider Children’s Social Work, with young people, their families and wider support networks. As we are concerned to promote recovery, children’s residential services undertake supportive work with the young person’s family system and also practices the values which underpin Staying Put. Young people are actively encouraged to remain in our care until they have reached a point in their development where they can be supported to move on, with aftercare support delivered by a small group of residential workers in collaboration with our care leaving services.

Kingsfield, Marchburn and Gilbert Road Children’s Homes constitute our Residential Services for Children, they are part of a cohort of our key Corporate Parenting service functions within Integrated Children and Family Services.  Residential Services for children sit within a group of specialist support services including Aberdeen Young Person’s Rights Service and Support Services for Care Leavers along with the strategic lead functions for Youth Justice.

Integrated Children and Family Services supports #keepthe promise with the following commitment:

“Aberdeen City Residential Children’s Services are a therapeutically-informed service, we do not use physical restraint and will seek to promote approaches to distress which favour non-physical intervention”
