EU Sustainability Energy Awards 2017

The winners of the 2017 EU Sustainable Energy Awards were announced at the Awards Ceremony in Brussels. Twelve projects made it to the Awards shortlist this year, three in each of the four categories: Consumers, Public Sector, Energy Islands, and Businesses. A further award was decided by a public online vote in the weeks leading up to EU Sustainable Energy Week 2017.

The winners are:

  • Consumers award: Home Energy Saving Kit by Codema (Ireland). The kit contains specialist tools to help householders identify potential energy savings in the home.
  • Public Sector award: CELSIUS project, from Göteborg Energi (Sweden), which supports district heating and cooling in 66 municipalities.
  • Business award: SINBIO by Trebišovská energetická (Slovakia), generating power for the town of Trebišov from agricultural and forestry waste.
  • Energy Islands award: Tilos project (Greece) for its power station that combines renewables, battery storage and a smart grid for secure energy. Tilos also took the Citizens' Award, chosen from the 12 finalists in an online poll. Over 22,000 votes were cast online, more than double the total in 2016.

The EU Sustainable Energy Awards recognise outstanding innovation in energy efficiency and renewables. Nominees/finalists are chosen from a shortlist of the year's most successful projects for clean, secure and efficient energy. With prizes from an expert jury and European citizens, the Awards highlight new ways to shape Europe's energy future.

Statistics can answer questions posed at different occasions in everyday life: Is society heading in the direction promised by politicians? Is unemployment up or down? Are there more CO2emissions compared with ten years ago? How many women have a job? How is my country's economy performing compared to other EU Member States? Statistics 4 Beginners has two workbooks currently to help you understand and use statistics.
