A scheme that enables not for profit cultural organisations, community groups, charities and individual artists to apply for support to deliver creative activity has opened for 2024/25.
The Creative Funding programme is open to creatives who live in Aberdeen and works to benefit the city’s cultural sector, as well as attracting tourism.
Aberdeen City Council Cultural spokesperson Councillor Martin Greig said: “The Creative Funding programme has already supported the work of so many creative individuals and groups across Aberdeen.
“I would encourage local artists and groups to apply so that we can continuously work to improve the cultural vibrancy that Aberdeen has to offer.”
In 2023-24 the programme supported 26 organisations and two individuals, whose projects reached an audience of more than 10,000 and contributed over £168,000 in additional funding to the city.
Last year’s applicants included Doric Books, who worked with three primary schools in Aberdeen to create two picture books in Doric.
Creative Funding Pilot Seed Funding also supported nine organisations including Black and Scot, who engaged with local Black-African artisans and professionals who collaborated with young designers and local people to raise awareness of African textiles and create new work.
Funding for 2024/25 has opened today (Monday 3rd June), with applications closing on Monday 29th July at 12 noon. Applicants will be notified of the outcome by Friday 6th September at 5pm.
Organisations with not for profit status, charities and community groups can apply for up to £8,000, while individuals can apply for up to £2,500 for the delivery of projects that meet the criteria. There are up to 8 individual awards available to be allocated this year.
