The Scottish Executive requires all Councils to have an education Accessibility Strategy in place. The aim of the strategy is to provide a route towards equality in education for all children and young people.
Aberdeen City Council's initial Accessibility Strategy will strive to form the building blocks that pave the way to equality in our schools for pupils with disabilities. The strategy will include the following key areas:
- Increasing the extent to which pupils are able to participate in the curriculum;
- Improving the physical environment of schools in order to make them more accessible;
- Improving communication and information with pupils.
Further information on this can be found on the Scottish Government website and the Disability Rights Commission website.
