Stefan Nandancee studied drawing and illustration at the Academie Royale des Beaux-Arts of Brussels. His work has been seen in group and solo exhibitions in Belgium, London and France.
The portrait is of the artist’s wife, Joelle and was made from life from a series of sittings over seven months in 2019. Nandancee says of his practice: ‘Jo and I have been working over seven intense months cloistered in our studio using all the tools we had at our disposal to magnify every tiny detail of Jo’s skin, strands of hair and the folds of her clothes. We were possessed by a delusional ambition to transform her transient being into something more durable than time itself.’
