Museums and galleries

Aberdeen's art gallery and museums are popular visitor attractions which provide showcase for the city's treasures and bring its rich history to life.

  • Aberdeen Art Gallery is currently closed for redevelopment.
The gallery houses an important fine art collection with particularly good examples of 19th, 20th and 21st Century works, a rich and diverse applied art collection, and an exciting programme of special exhibitions.
  • Aberdeen Maritime Museum brings the history of the North Sea to life. View displays and exhibitions on the offshore oil industry, shipbuilding, fishing and clipper ships.
  • Provost Skene's House is currently closed due to the development of Marischal Square.
Dating from 1545, Provost Skene’s House houses an attractive series of period rooms settings, recalling the elegant furnishings of earlier times.
  • The Tolbooth Museum features displays of crime and punishment, local history and archaeology.
