Volunteers who worked a combined 594 hours in libraries over the past year were honoured at an awards ceremony at the Central Library last.
The event was hosted by the library service to mark the 40th anniversary of Volunteer Week. Certificates were handed out to Saltire Award winners, as well as special certificates for volunteers from Aberdeen Council for Voluntary Organisations (ACVO).
Cara Leigh, who received a Saltire Award for her volunteering, said: "I’ve done 50 hours of volunteering at the library, which has been very enjoyable.
“My favourite parts have been meeting lots of new people and creating banners for the library service’s RDF project as I was able to learn a lot of new things. At the library I‘ve gained a variety of skills and I’ve had a brilliant time.”
Aberdeen City Council Library Services Manager, Margaret Stewart said: “Our volunteers are a vital part of our team, supporting us to deliver services to communities and run events, while developing their own skills and experience.
“It’s important to recognise them for their contribution, and what better time to do it than during Volunteer Week. We’d like to thank each volunteer for the time and effort they give us.
ACVO Service Manager, Mike Melvin, added: “Volunteers Week is the perfect time to say thank you to all the amazing volunteers in Aberdeen. This includes all the tremendous volunteers at Aberdeen City Libraries who provide so much help, support and make such a positive difference for people and communities.
“ACVO, Aberdeen’s third sector interface, is delighted to extend a huge Volunteers Week thank you to all Aberdeen City libraries volunteers for all you do. Have a great Volunteers Week 2024.”
