Aberdeen City Council recognised for support given to young employees

Aberdeen City Council has been recognised as an ‘Employer of Choice’ by a prestigious award scheme

The local authority has received the Investors in Young People Accreditation which represents a commitment to the training and development of young people.

The award is the only people management standard that focuses on an employer’s recruitment and retention of young people.

Aberdeen City Council has also become Carer Positive Engaged employer – an award which is presented to employers in Scotland who have a working environment where carers are valued and supported.

Carer Positive is a Scottish Government funded initiative and has recognised the Council’s existing policies and procedures that are available to those with caring responsibilities and their managers, including the Supporting Carers in the Workplace guidance.

Aberdeen City Council Finance, Policy and Resources Convener Councillor Willie Young said: “As a local authority, we have to lead by example in terms of the support we give to employees and ensure that we uphold best practice in all matters of employment.

“It is particularly important that we support the next generation in their training and development and offer all the guidance at our disposal to ensure they can progress skills which will be invaluable to our future workforce.

“It is fitting that we have now been identified as an ‘employer of choice’ for young people in this regard.

“It is also equally important that we provide the right environment and support for all those people who provide frontline care for families and individuals in Aberdeen who are dealing with health difficulties.

“The Carer Positive accreditation is the first step on the ladder to ensure that we offer this support and we will continue to progress in this award programme.”
