Aberdeen City Libraries announces Book Week Scotland events

Aberdeen City Libraries next week commemorate Book Week Scotland with a fabulous line up of author talks.
The annual event which this year runs from 18-23 November will see four famous authors, give free talks, at Aberdeen Central Library on Rosemount Viaduct and at Tillydrone Library.
First up is an opportunity to get on board for an evening of Train Noir with authors SJI Holliday and MJ Cross who discuss crime set on the rails on Monday 18 November from 6-7.30pm.
SJI Holliday’s Violet takes us on a trip on the Trans-Siberian Express, but one of the passengers is not who they claim to be. Meanwhile, MJ Cross begins What She Saw Last Night with a death on the Caledonian Sleeper, leading to a mystery to unravel.
On Wednesday 20 November, we step back in time with Waterstones 2017 Book of the Year author S.G. Maclean from 6pm onwards at Aberdeen Central Library.
Delve into the past as Shona gives an insight into the research methods she uses when writing her highly acclaimed historical thrillers such as The Redemption of Alexander Seaton and The Seeker series.
The author is looking forward to returning to the city, saying “My years as a student in Aberdeen were absolutely formative to what I write, and I have very happy memories of later visits to Ferryhill Library as a young mum with my children. I’m delighted to have been invited back to Aberdeen for Book Week Scotland.”
The free hour-long talk will include a Q&A session with copies of Shona’s book available on the night.
By way of contrast the week’s events end on a futuristic note at Tillydrone Library from 2,30-4pm on Saturday 23 November with science-fiction author Helen Sedgwick
Former research scientist Helen Sedgwick will discuss the influence of science on her writing. The Comet Seekers is a love story, based in an Antarctic scientific research centre, while The Growing Season imagines a future where, through biotechnology, anyone can grow a baby.
Helen will also discuss her venture into crime writing with her new novel available in 2020, When the Dead Come Calling.
Helen said: "Book Week Scotland is an absolute treasure, and it's an honour to be invited by Aberdeen City Libraries to share my love of books and ideas."
The free hour-long event will include a Q&A.

In addition to these events, there is a fully-booked Writing for Wellbeing workshop with Helen Boden, special reading groups at Ferryhill and Tillydrone Libraries and Bookbug and Storytime sessions for younger readers.
