07 May 2019

The Lord Provost of Aberdeen Barney Crockett officially opened the Scotland Pavilion at OTC in Houston yesterday (Monday 06 May).

There are more than 50 Scottish companies exhibiting on the pavilion this year and are part of the largest UK delegation to attend OTC for many years.

The long-standing relationships between Houston and Aberdeen go back decades, which has seen the sharing of knowledge and excellence; major commercial and investment relationships.

This year is the 40th anniversary of the Houston-Grampian Association, whose ties go beyond oil and gas.

OTC celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and with so many exhibitors and visitors it is expected to be the best conference to date.

During his time at OTC the Lord Provost, who is Vice-President of the World Energy Cities Partnership (WECP) has met with fellow members of the WECP at Best Practice sessions and heard presentations and taken part in discussions on potential linkages between clusters and innovation hubs.

The Lord Provost of Aberdeen Barney Crockett said: “In what is OTC’s 50th year it is fantastic that we have the largest UK delegation attending for many years, with the biggest contingent coming from Aberdeen.

“It’s a great honour for me personally to represent Aberdeen and to help promote the city on a global stage. Aberdeen is a business centre with globally-competitive industries not only in energy and renewables, but food and drink, research and education as well as a diverse cultural offering.

“OTC also offers members of the World Energy Cities Partnership a great opportunity to meet up to discuss key issues ahead of the WECP AGM in Aberdeen this September, where innovation and energy transition will be a major focus.”

This evening (Tuesday 07 May) the WECP Board of Directors will meet to hear an update from the City of Aberdeen on its plans for this year’s WECP AGM, which will be held from Wednesday 04 to Saturday 07 September in the Granite City.

A vote on a new President and Vice-President will take place at the WECP’s AGM and there is significant support from the partnership for the Lord Provost’s nomination for the presidency.

With Offshore Europe due to open from Tuesday 03 September to Friday 06 September in Aberdeen, the city will showcase why it continues to be regarded a global energy hub.
