Aberdeen Lord-Lieutenant statement on death of The Duke of Edinburgh

The Lord Provost of Aberdeen Barney Crockett, in his role as Her Majesty The Queen’s Lord-Lieutenant has issued the following statement on the news of the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Aberdeen Barney Crockett said: “It was with very great sadness that I learned of the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

“Prince Philip, as husband and consort to Her Majesty The Queen, enabled Her Majesty to be a constant source of stability in an unstable world and why she continues to be held in such high regard across the world.

“It is a time of great personal grief for Her Majesty The Queen and her family; they have lost a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. My thoughts are with all members of the Royal Family at this very sad time and I will be writing to Her Majesty The Queen to express the deepest sympathies of the entire city.”

In line with current Covid restrictions, the Royal Household has requested that members of the public do not leave floral tributes.

There will be no physical Books of Condolence due to Covid restrictions.

An online Book of Remembrance has been opened at https://www.royal.uk to allow people to pay their respects.
