Aberdeen Music Service to lift spirits during lockdown with series of singalong videos

Aberdeen City Council’s Music Service for schools is today (Tuesday 19 May) launching the first of a series of musical singalong videos to raise viewers spirits during the current Covid-19 lockdown.

The first video features Anna Hamilton, a singer who normally visits schools to teach singing, giving a rendition of Let Me Call You Sweetheart. The video displays the lyrics onscreen to encourage participation among viewers at home.

Future videos will include The Northern Lights of Old Aberdeen - also presented in a singalong format – Music Service pupils playing Danny Boy from their homes.

Councillor John Wheeler, Aberdeen City Council’s Education Operational Delivery Convener, said: “This is yet another fabulous creative effort from our Education team to raise the spirits and bring happiness not just to pupils, staff and families but also to the wider community especially those who may be feeling lonely and isolated during the current lockdown.

“I am sure people will enjoy the singalong, participatory nature of the videos and my thanks to everyone at the Music Service for such uplifting work”.

Aberdeen City Music Service offers high quality musical experiences for children and young people across the city.

In normal circumstances, instructors visit all schools in Aberdeen and offer weekly lessons on a range of musical instruments. Online tuition is temporarily taking place during the Covid-19 lockdown.

After a period of learning an instrument, pupils are invited to the service’s Music Centre at Northfield Academy in order to play in ensembles, bands or orchestras and to perform in concerts.
