Aberdeen is a brilliant place to live

A video telling a positive story of resilience and hope and describing the investment made in Aberdeen in recent years by Aberdeen City Council and its partners, has been released today [Tuesday 09 February 2021].
The video highlights all that is good about the city and living here; from culture to countryside, green spaces to investment in infrastructure and schools and above all, the city’s adaptability as its people, the Council and businesses get ready for a new future that will see Aberdeen at the forefront of new green energies gradually replacing traditional oil and gas.
Councillor Jenny Laing, Co-Leader of Aberdeen City Council said: “Our response to the COVID-19 pandemic has always been two-pronged. The priority, naturally, has been on protecting the most vulnerable members of society and delivering essential public services. However, in leading this city we have also ensured that the foundations are in place for continuing economic prosperity.
“Whether it has been our bond issue or striking a City Region Deal, building TECA or a city bypass, we have always looked and moved forward. That investment of making Aberdeen a compelling place to live, work, visit and do business will prove invaluable as we move through the recovery phase. Tackling poverty helps us tackle ill-health in its many forms.
Councillor Douglas Lumsden, Co-Leader of Aberdeen City Council said: “We were on a fantastic journey before COVID-19 reset global ambition. The pace may have slowed but with a vaccine programme under way and a hope that restrictions can be reduced in the near future, we’ve positioned ourselves to reap the benefits of our new infrastructure, business diversification, training and job opportunities.
“The development of hydrogen as a clean power source is just one area where we are showing the UK and further afield what a brighter future can look like.
“These remain hugely challenging times, but our vision is becoming a reality as we lead the green energy revolution, regenerate the city’s heart and deliver high-quality new homes. Aberdeen remains a brilliant place to live.”

Members of the Urgent Business Committee agreed in June 2020 that a video should be produced to help promote the city’s assets, including investments by Aberdeen City Council which will be the foundations from which future recovery, the Net Zero Vision and new investment is secured as part of the Council’s Social-Economic Rescue Plan.
The video was produced in-house.
