Award scheme on offer to visual artists and craft makers

The latest set of awards which aim to support emerging local artists and craft makers are now available Aberdeen City Council announced today (Monday 29 August).
The Visual Artist and Craft Makers awards offer funding of up to £1,500 to individual artists to support their personal development and to encourage innovative professional practice in contemporary arts and crafts.
The City Council in partnership with Creative Scotland have established the funding awards which can be used to meet the costs of researching, creating and presenting new work or advancing skills, technical ability and ideas.
Applications for the Visual Artists Awards scheme are invited from artists who work across the spectrum of visual arts including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, moving image and filmmaking.
Craft makers who work in ceramics, furniture and wood, glass, jewellery, metalwork and textiles are invited to apply to the Craft Makers Scheme, which could help them create contemporary craftwork and for professional development.
Deputy Leader of Aberdeen City Council, Councillor Marie Boulton said: “We are committed to increasing the cultural sector in the city, and our partnership with Creative Scotland enables us to invest in the talented artists and craft makers who work and thrive here in the city.
The awards have been on offer over the last few years and they make a big difference to emerging artists, which will ultimately lead to an even greater cultural offering here in Aberdeen and the wider region.”
There are two rounds of applications for both awards. The first deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 21 October 2016 and the second deadline is 5pm on Monday 20 February 2017.
