Bin collections in Aberdeen over the festive period

11 December 2020

Residents in Aberdeen were today advised that if their waste or recycling bins were due to be picked up on Christmas or New Year’s Day, they would instead be picked up on the Sunday afterwards.

So, the Friday 25 December collection will instead be picked up on Sunday 27 December, and the Friday 1 January collection will be picked up on Sunday 3 January. All other uplifts over the periodwill take place on the usual collection day, though times may change so residents are advised to have their bins out by 7am.

Household Waste and Recycling Centres will be open for standard winter opening hours through the festive season except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day and more information on these can be found on the City Council’s website at www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/recyclingcentres. People can also use their nearest Recycling Point for excess boxes, bottles and other recyclable materials. Identification is required (city home address only) to access Household Waste and Recycling Centres and residents wishing to visit with larger vehicles and trailers arerequiredto book beforehand.

Residents are reminded that all bin collection services will be operating at a reduced level over the festive period so there may be delays in some areas especially in adverse weather conditions.

People are also asked to recycle as much as possible over the festive period including wrapping paper, cardboard, bottles and cans. Aberdeen City Council cannot recycle glitter or foil wrapping paper, bows or ribbons however.

Food waste can also be reduced or recycled, and the website www.lovefoodhatewaste.com has helpful hints and recipes.

As in previous years, requests for bulky uplifts will be suspended over the festive period, with staff redeployed elsewhere. Flytipping will continue to be uplifted as resources allow.
