Celebrate World Book Night with astronomer-turned author

Astronomer-turned author Pippa Goldschmidt will explore the links between science and literature at a free talk to celebrate World Book Night on Saturday 23 April at Aberdeen Central Library, Rosemount Viaduct.

Organised by Aberdeen City Libraries the talk will start at 2.30pm, and will be followed by a Q&A session. The event is due to end at 4pm.

Pippa worked as an astronomer before discovering her passion for writing and is an editor of I Am Because You Are, an anthology of short stories and essays celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity. Her debut novel The Falling Sky reached the final of the Dundee International Book Prize in 2012. Her work has featured in international publications including the New York Times.

Aberdeen City Council’s Convener of Education and Children’s Services Committee Councillor Angela Taylor, said: “Pippa’s joy of reading about astronomy and science has led her to become a successful astronomer and writer, and her enthusiasm for both will inspire others and help us celebrate World Book Night here in Aberdeen.”

Pippa Goldschmidt said: “World Book Night is a brilliant idea and I’m really looking forward to celebrating it in Aberdeen at the Central Library. If we can’t see the stars we can talk and read about them.”

Copies of The Falling Sky will be available to purchase following the Q&A session.
