Celebrate World Book Night with award-winning author

Aberdeen City Libraries will host a free talk by award-winning author Leila Aboulela to celebrate World Book Night and to launch its participation in the ‘Read the Past – Imagine the Future’ initiative.

This special hour-long event will be held at 2.30pm on Saturday 22 April in Aberdeen Central Library on Rosemount Viaduct.

Born in Cairo, brought up in Khartoum and now living

 in Aberdeen, Leila will talk about her internationally acclaimed works including Minaret and Lyrics Alley, in addition to her latest book The Kindness of Enemies.

Leila will also share stories about her writing as she helps launch Aberdeen City Libraries’ participation in this year’s adult reading promotion ‘Read the Past – Imagine the Future’, which encourages people to celebrate the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology 2017 with a great read from their local library.

Leila said: "Aberdeen Central Library is one of my favourite places in the city. It's been pivotal to my development and enrichment as a writer. I love walking up the library's grand steps in anticipation of all the wonderful books I will take home with me to read. I’m looking forward to the event.”

The ‘Read the Past – Imagine the Future’ campaign runs in libraries across Scotland until Book Week Scotland in November and is designed to celebrate Scotland’s rich heritage and diverse reading culture. It aims to encourage adults and young people to ‘Read the Past – Imagine the Future’ with exciting new and established fiction and nonfiction authors and books as well as entering the review competition.
