Champions Board makes progress for Care Experienced Young People
12 December 2019
The Aberdeen City Champions Board met last night (11 December 2019) to advance their shared aspiration to close the attainment and wellbeing gap between care experienced young people and their peers to enable all children and young people in Aberdeen to have the best start in life.
The Champions Board, which brings together care experienced young people and corporate parents, heard about the delivery of the young person-inspired mobile phonebank at the Westburn Resource Centre to tackle social isolation.
The boatrd also agreed that all corporate parents would aspire, within six months, to offer guaranteed interviews to care experienced young people who met the requirements for the job. The board also heard about the organisation of a Christmas Day dinner for care experienced young people and discussed areas important to young people such as food poverty, modern apprenticeships and employment; and mental health care.
The Champions Board helps the council and other corporate parents in the city to deliver our Local Outcome Improvement Plan and supports Aberdeen’s efforts to become a UNICEF recognised Child Friendly City.
