Community Festive Lighting Fund Launched

Applications are being invited for Aberdeen City Council's Festive Lighting Fund 2020, which will be launched on 2 November.

Following a decision at City Growth and Resources Committee (28 October), funding previously set aside for the Aberdeen City Council Winter Festival Programme has been reallocated for community groups and organisations to help brighten the festive season.

The £30,000 funding pot will be used to celebrate community wellbeing by allowing local organisations and groups to organise their own lighting and decorations.

Subject to eligibility, up to £3,000 is on offer to groups and organisations who apply. Funds will be allocated once all applications have been received for consideration by the 13 November closing date.

Aberdeen City Council Culture spokesperson, Councillor Marie Boulton, said “Christmas celebrations in Aberdeen are going to feel a bit different this year with the major public Christmas events being cancelled. However, we still want to help inject that festive spirit into communities.

“Applications are welcome from all and it is hoped that the Festive Lighting Fund will bring pride to a number of localities and lift everyone’s spirits. The heart of the community is crucial at times like this and we hope this fund will bring some light in to residents’ lives, especially children and the elderly.”

The qualifying criteria for applications are:

Only one application per group will be considered; Applications must be from a constituted group or organisation; All applications must be for the benefit of a community within Aberdeen City; The funding can be used for festive decorations, festive lighting, trees, other festive related fixtures.

The Council will endeavour to award the full amount requested. However, due to the number of applications anticipated and to ensure a fair allocation of funds, groups may receive a percentage of their request.

Applications for the Community Festive Fund should be returned by 12noon on Friday 13th November 2020 using the online application form available at www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/christmas
