Council looks to recruit a third religious representative

14 March 2017

Aberdeen City Council are today (Tuesday 14 March) seeking to recruit a third religious representative to its Education and Children Services Committee.

The Committee includes three representatives of religious bodies. The Council is obliged by law to include one representative of the Church of Scotland and one representative of the Roman Catholic Church and these appointments have been made.

An Aberdeen City Council spokesperson said: “In appointing a third religious representative, the Council is required to have regard to the comparative strength of all the churches and denominational bodies within the city an take into account the two appointments already made. The third person should not, therefore, be a member of the Church of Scotland or the Roman Catholic Church”.

In order to make this appointment, representatives of other churches and denominational bodies fulfilling the above description are invited to attend a meeting in the Town House, Broad Street, Aberdeen on Tuesday 18 April 2017 at 6.00pm.

The meeting is intended to allow for a discussion of broad principles before, if possible, securing a single nomination from those in attendance, of the third religious representative, for subsequent consideration by the Council.

For details on how to submit a nomination, interested parties should visit: http://www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/council_government/CommitteeServices/cs_Third_Religious_Representative_Recruitment.asp

The deadline for submissions is 5pm on Wednesday 12 April 2017. All nominees are required to attend the meeting on 18 April.
