Council staff launch festive fundraising campaign

05 December 2016

Aberdeen City Council employees have embarked on a festive fundraising drive in support of this year’s chosen charity.

Instead of giving Christmas cards to colleagues, staff have been asked to join the Christmas Charity Challenge by donating to the cause.

More than 21 charitable organisations were nominated by employees, helping to put the spotlight on the work those organisations do to support the people and communities that depend on their services, with Crohn’s and Colitis UK chosen in a staff vote.

Aberdeen City Council Leader, Councillor Jenny Laing said: “The charity was championed by a member of staff at one of our roads depots, who spoke up for those who may suffer in silence because they may not know how to talk about what they’re going through or who they can turn to for help.

“As an organisation we can help to improve the quality of life for people affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), both patients and their families, and staff voted to support that aim by choosing Crohn’s and Colitis UK as the recipient of our One Team donation.

“Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis are often viewed as invisible illnesses and the contribution we make will help improve the quality of life for people affected by IBD.”

Previously the Aberdeen City Council staff Christmas fundraising effort raised more than £9,000 for the ARCHIE Foundation and Whale and Dolphin Conservation.
