Danestone School takes to the Oor Wullie trail to raise money for the Archie Foundation

Big-hearted Danestone School pupils yesterday (Thursday 9 May) today joined up with Scotland’s favourite schoolboy, Oor Wullie, to raise money for children’s healthcare charity, the Archie Foundation.

Children from nursery school age up to P7 helped set up and manage fund-raising stalls at the school to help raise funds for the official charity of the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.

Their efforts are part of the nationwide Oor Wullie Trail campaign which sees statues of the much-loved scamp being given a makeover by school pupils across Scotland to help develop an interest in arts and crafts as well as raising money to help others.

And fittingly for Danestone, which is part of a hub of schools in the city teaching Mandarin to pupils, the school’s pupils have chosen a Scottish / Chinese theme for the finished sculpture.

Head teacher, Elaine Page, said: “We are very grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of the Oor Wullie Big Bucket Trail thanks to the International School of Aberdeen who donated the sculpture to Danestone.

“The children are very excited about seeing their designs come to life on the school’s sculpture. The whole school have been very enthusiastic about raising money and awareness for the Archie Foundation and are looking forward to the trail starting in June.

Today’s event saw pupils setting up their own class stalls to sell books, toys and homemade crafts. There was also a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses. And the local community were invited along not only to take part but also to see how the school’s amazing sculpture design was progressing.
