Dyce Library Begins A New Chapter

Dyce Library is to write a new chapter in its story this month when it relocates to Dyce Community Centre.

The move to the community centre on Gordon Terrace will allow the library to strengthen its relationships and explore new avenues for collaboration with the local community.

The library will be housed in a temporary location within the Community Centre while a brand new library space is developed within the facility. The new library will feature self-service access to the facilities outside of the regular opening hours.

Aberdeen's Lord Provost Barney Crockett said: “We are delighted to announce this exciting new chapter for Dyce Library during Libraries Week, which this year celebrates the central role that libraries play in their community as a driver for inclusion, sustainability, social mobility and community cohesion.

"The success of Tillydrone Community Campus since its opening in 2019 has proven the significant positive impact that a library space can bring to a community hub and we are excited the library will become part of the Dyce Community Centre and to contribute to the community programmes they deliver."

Dyce Library will be closed from Monday 18 October to Saturday 30 October to facilitate the move.

The temporary library space in Dyce Community Centre will open to the public in early November, coming at a time when the Centre is reinstating its popular programme of events and activities including their under-5 group Busy Days.

Marjory D’Arcy, chairperson of Dyce and Stoneywood Community Association, said: “The Community Association is looking forward to sharing the Centre with the Library as its programme of 20 groups some of which begin to return from next week after the long-enforced closure.”

The old library site will be converted to changing rooms for nearby playing fields.
