Family fun-packed day on offer at Aberdeen Highland Games

Thousands are expected to visit Aberdeen's Highland Games at Hazlehead Park from 10am until 5.30pm this Sunday (21 June).
The city's annual Highland Games are always popular with local residents and visitors to the city with a fabulous mix of traditional events and not-so-traditional activities for all the family to enjoy on what is also Father's Day.
With so many activities and entertainment lined up, this year promises to be even bigger and better than ever.
Traditional events include heavy events, piping, pipe band competition, track and field events, highland dancing and Scottish tug-o-war championship 725kg.
Many of the events and activities are included in the entrance fee, making Aberdeen's Highland Games great value for money.
Family entertainment includes indoor laser tag maze, climbing challenge, Scottish entertainment marquee, Portsoy Boat Festival stall, walkabout balloon modellers, Segways, inflatable assault courses, birds of prey from 2 Wit 2 Woo, Countryside Ranger Service, an Atlantic rowing challenge, and chainsaw wood carver.
In the Scottish entertainment marquee Aberdeen Festivals will host a morning of fun-filled family art experiences from North East Open Studios, crafting session with Arts Across Learning Festival and science-based workshops with TechFest. There will also be live music and performances from sound, DanceLive, Aberdeen Jazz Festival and Aberdeen International Youth Festival in the afternoon. There will also be charity and trade stalls, food and drink available to purchase, a beer tent (over 18s only) and a fun fair.
The Lord Provost of Aberdeen George Adam said: "I always look forward to Aberdeen's Highland Games as there is a huge selection of things to see and do and there is always a great crowd, of all ages, making it a fabulous day out."
