Fireworks Spectacular cancelled due to deteriorating weather
05 November 2016
Unfortunately, due to the deteriorating weather conditions, Aberdeen City Council have had to cancel the fireworks display scheduled for this evening [Saturday 05 November] at Aberdeen beach.
We are extremely disappointed that this year’s display will not go ahead but the public’s safety is our paramount concern.
The fireworks display cannot be rescheduled to another date due to the cost and time required to organise this large event which attracts up to 12,000 spectators.
The City Events team at Aberdeen City Council began preparations and planning four months ago at the beginning of July. Many partners and agencies work closely to deliver this free event such as the emergency services, first aid, roads, park and ride, city wardens, event stewards, the fireworks provider, waste, toilets and catering provision as well as linking with local residents and businesses.
However, we are looking forward to the rest of the Winter Festival. Our next event is the Christmas Tree Switch-On and Lighting of Marischal College on Thursday 24 November. We have a packed events schedule ahead, including the return of the Christmas Village to the city centre which opens on Friday 25 November – Sunday 8 January. Plus two new features for 2016, Aberdeen’s Christmas Tree Maze and the Twelve Days of Christmas Wooden Sculpture Trail. For full details visit http://aberdeenchristmas.co.uk/
