Hall of Heroes: five days of voting left
07 February 2017
People were today encouraged to have their say on a "Hall of Heroes" that will be part of a new Aberdeen visitor attraction.
As part of the City Centre Masterplan, Provost Skene’s House is being redeveloped to tell the story of local people who helped transform the wider world.
The ground floor is to become a “Hall of Heroes”, drawn from Stars of Stage and Screen; Musical Maestros; Sporting Champions; Wizard Wordsmiths; and Scientific Saviours.
Since the poll was launched on January 23, more than 1,600 people have so far voted for the individuals they think should be selected.
City Council Leader Councillor Jenny Laing said: "This Masterplan project has generated lots of interest and I'm sure that will continue in the final few days of voting.
"It’s an attraction which should inspire and enlighten visitors when it opens later this year, and I would encourage everyone to have their say before the poll closes on February 12."
Deputy Leader Councillor Marie Boulton said: "This is a chance for residents to say who among the candidates has special meaning for them.
"It's going to be hugely exciting learning the names of those who will form a welcome at Provost Skene's House."
All of the heroes will be showcased. The poll is for an additional presence on the ground floor.
In all, more than 100 individuals will be celebrated in the Guestrow building, which is being renovated through the £1.5 million Masterplan project
The full line-up – ranging from Nobel-winning scientists to international entrepreneurs – was drawn up with the guidance of a steering group, which included representation from the tourism, cultural, academic and business sectors.
The poll closes on February 12 and can be accessed online through the City Council’s website.
Voting forms are also available at Marischal College, libraries and community centre.
