Hazlehead Park revamp continues

The next phase of work at Hazlehead Park has begun as a programme of improvements to the popular Aberdeen attraction takes shape.

Contractors are refurbishing and remodelling heather beds this week to make long-term maintenance easier, with planting due to start in spring. A small number of trees will be removed, in line with a tree survey undertaken as part of the wider work being undertaken.

Aberdeen City Council Communities, Housing and Infrastructure vice-convener Councillor Jean Morrison said: “Hazlehead Park is a jewel in Aberdeen’s crown and is important we maintain and improve it sympathetically.

“The ongoing work fits with that aim and I look forward to seeing the end results. We are fortunate to have some wonderful greenspaces in the city.”

At 180 acres it is the largest park in Aberdeen. Hazlehead is also a Red Squirrel Conservation Area and has a wide range of family-friendly facilities including playparks, a café, a maze, Pets' Corner and a calendar of events including the Aberdeen Highland Games. It also houses the Queen Mother Rose Garden and the Piper Alpha Memorial Garden.
