Hole in Harlaw Playing Fields now fixed

A hole which appeared in a city playing fields has been fixed and the facility will be open again very shortly.

Harlaw Playing Fields had been out of action since May when the hole appeared at the site of a former dye-bleach works where it had been thought several underground ducts had been left in situ.

Extensive works were carried out involving specialist engineers to establish the extent of the hole and ducts underground.

The grounds were closed for the safety of youngsters and others using the fields while the extent of the issue was determined and while works were carried out and are now due to open very shortly as the grass had to re-grow over the site of the hole.

Aberdeen City Council Communities, Housing and Infrastructure convener Councillor Neil Cooney said: “Thankfully the extent of the hole and ducts wasn’t as bad as first feared, so the problem has been fixed and the hole repaired.

“We then have to wait until the grass is properly re-established over the site of the hole before the area could be used for sports activities as these can take a heavy toll on grass.

“The Harlaw Playing Fields are now due to re-open very shortly and we appreciate everyone’s patience while the investigation and the works were going on.”

The City Council worked with Sport Aberdeen to relocate sporting activities at the Playing Field over the last few months.
