Visitors to In Town Without My Car Day will be entertained by a number of exciting stalls and free activities including the Skyfall zipwire down Union Street, our very own version of Carpool Karaoke and an inflatable bootcamp course and bungee run. A number of other exciting activities have been booked including; the Getabout Bicycle Roadshow, face painting, a window treasure hunt competition, Dr Bike tutors and many more in the large, traffic free space.. .
The event is one of several being held in Aberdeen as part of European Mobility week, an EU funded initiative which has sought to promote alternatives to private car use in cities, as well as improve health and quality of life for everyone by exploring solutions to urban challenges, such as air pollution since 2002. This year’s theme is “multimodality” and is encouraging us to explore the many different options available for getting from A to B, and to think about the mode that best suits our particular journey. Those travelling to the event are encouraged to; walk, cycle or take the bus and will be rewarded with Getabout goodies for doing so from the Getabout stand. If you travel by bus, then come come along with your ticket as evidence.
In Town Without My Car Day and European Mobility week are supported by the GetAbout partnership which includes; Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Councils plus;NESTRANS, NHS, Energy Saving Trust, RGU, University of Aberdeen and NESCOL. The Getabout partnership aims to promote sustainable transport in the North East of Scotland. GetAbout, Co-Wheels, Air Quality officers and Home Energy Scotland will be on hand to provide free advice and items for travelling more sustainably and encouraging alternative transport solutions.
