January is the ideal month to take up healthy reading

24 January 2016

January is often the month when people decide to get fitter and eat more healthily, which is why Aberdeen City Libraries has created Healthy Reading Collections in a number of local libraries.

The collections of reading materials have been developed with support from NHS Grampian, and are available at Culter, Tillydrone and Mastrick libraries, from today (Mon 25 Jan).

On offer are mood-boosting fiction books and titles providing information on topics such as healthy eating, mental health, self-esteem and other wellbeing subjects.

The collection has been designed to offer information and support for those living with or supporting people with health issues, as well as those interested in learning more about health-related topics.

The reading materials are available to all members of the public and can be requested from any library in Aberdeen.

Aberdeen City Council's Convener of Education and Children's Services Committee Councillor Angela Taylor said: "Most people think about their health and fitness at this time of year so to be able to access free reading material on how to improve both is a great idea."

Aberdeen City Libraries will also host free Healthy Eating information sessions in partnership with NHS Grampian wellness coaches on Wednesday 10 February from 6pm to 7pm at Aberdeen Central Library, Rosemount Viaduct, and on Thursday 11 February from 1.30pm to 2.30pm in Airyhall Library, Springfield Road.
