Kaimhill School serves up a new Breakfast Club for pupils

17 January 2017

Kaimhill School today (Tuesday 17 January) teamed up with a local charity to launch a new Breakfast Club for pupils.

The breakfast club is being trialled at the primary school for four weeks and is being run in partnership with the TLC Foodbank in Garthdee to provide additional support for families in the area. Children are offered cereal and cereal bars, with fresh milk being provided by the nearby Asda superstore while the school is providing fruit juice and boards for the pupils to play with once they have eaten.

If the trial is successful, the long term aim will be to run the club on a daily basis during term time.

Councillor Angela Taylor, Education and Children Services Committee Convener, said: “This is a fantastic idea and all credit to the school, Tim McIlroy at TLC Foodbank and Asda for supporting a scheme that not only helps families but also enhances the children’s social interactions”.

Diane Rough, Depute Head Teacher at Kaimhill School, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with TLC Foodbank to facilitate the provision of a Breakfast Club for our youngsters. Breakfast is a very important meal and this will help the children to have a positive start to their day. In addition to this the children will benefit from the social opportunities that the Breakfast Club will provide.”

Tim McIlroy, who runs the TLC Foodbank in Garthdee said; “TLC works to combat food poverty in our city and are delighted to have the opportunity to start a breakfast club working with Kaimhill Primary school, to truly impact the lives of the youth in our city. The breakfast club will not only provide food but also social interaction and a sense of community. "
