Latest steps to combat impact of coronavirus

18 March 2020

In response to the latest government advice on the coronavirus, Aberdeen City Council has today taken a number of steps to prevent further spread of the virus; protect employee and public health; and to ensure we can continue to deliver public services, especially to those who need us most.

The following venues will close temporarily to the general public:

Aberdeen Art Gallery; Aberdeen Maritime Museum; The Tolbooth Museum; Aberdeen Treasure Hub Museum Centre; Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Archives Room at the Town House; Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Archives at Old Aberdeen House; Beach Ballroom; Pets Corner; Winter Gardens.

The following libraries will close:

Bridge of Don; Culter; Dyce; Torry; Cornhill; Cults; Ferryhill; Kaimhill; Northfield; Woodside.

The Council will continue to monitor and review the situation, taking account of evolving government guidance. Updates on re-openings will be announced when known.

Council Lets

The Council has cancelled lets on all Council buildings, including schools, community learning centres and civic rooms until the end of April, when the situation will be reviewed. The Council meantime is suspending new bookings.

Housing

Public access to the Housing Offices at Mastrick, Tillydrone and Woodside Fountain Centre is being stopped, in order to allow staff to focus on critical business issues, and to minimise the spread of the coronavirus.

Housing staff will be working to provide tenants with the support they need in critical business areas, specifically rent management and property management including letting.

Face to face contact will be restricted to providing support on Universal Credit and benefit claims, and viewings and lettings by appointment only. Tenants requiring assistance should visit our website or contact their local Housing Office.

Customer Access Points

The following Customer Access Points have closed:

Kincorth Customer Access Point; Mastrick Customer Access Point; Woodside Customer Access Point (within Woodside Fountain Centre).

To minimise the number of people coming in unnecessarily, we encourage you to contact us online or by telephone. Payments can be made online or by phone. Rent and Council Tax can also be paid at your local Paypoint.

Schools

Schools are expected to be closed by the end of the week in response to the latest Scottish Government advice. Out of School Care provision operating within primary school premises will also close. This includes breakfast provision, after school care provision and holiday provision.
