Mobile Art School takes to the streets as Aberdeen gets ready to welcome British Art Show

Mobile Art School is popping up on city streets, inviting local people to explore their creativity during British Art Show 9 which opens at Aberdeen Art Gallery on Saturday (10 July).
Aberdeen Art Gallery has teamed up with Mobile Art School – an outreach project from Gray’s School of Art at Robert Gordon University - to bring art to everyone in a series of pop-up art workshops in locations around the city during the exhibition which continues until 10 October.
Pre-pandemic, the specially-equipped Mobile Art School travelled to schools across the city-region to improve awareness and understanding of the creative industries. The custom-built Mobile Art School vehicle is equipped with state-of-the-art creative tools including screen printing, jewellery maker, laser cutting and etching facilities, as well as a mobile dark room and a raku kiln.
Councillor Marie Boulton, Aberdeen City Council’s culture spokesperson, said: “From Saturday, visitors to British Art Show 9 at Aberdeen Art Gallery can experience a panoramic snapshot of the art of now through the work of 33 contemporary artists.
This exciting partnership with Mobile Art School is activating our city streets and giving people opportunities to explore their own creativity.”
Craig Barrowman, Mobile Art School Coordinator, said: “Gray's School of Art's Mobile Art School is delighted to be partnering with Aberdeen Art Gallery during British Art Show 9.
“We'll be out in public spaces for the first time in over a year delivering a range of pop-up art and design workshops that anyone can try, and we're really looking forward to connecting with people, creating together, and helping build a buzz around the exhibition."
