New lease agreement for community centres gets go ahead

Councillors today approved a new agreement for leased community centres in the city.

Aberdeen City Council will now be responsible for any repairs and maintenance required to keep the properties fit-for-purpose in line with the wishes of the 22 leased centres in the city.

The proposals, backed by the Communities, Housing and Infrastructure Committee, were brought forward following extensive consultation between the Council and the centres.

At an event last month, representatives from 20 of the 22 centres made a written commitment to sign the lease.

Aberdeen City Council Communities, Housing and Infrastructure Committee vice-convener Councillor Gordon Graham said: “We recognise the value the centres bring to our communities and are committed to working in partnership to deliver positive outcomes for all of our residents.

“Through open dialogue and strong consultation, we have been able to set out an agreement which provides the support the volunteers need to continue to provide invaluable services on our frontlines.

“I look forward to further strengthening our relationships with the centres and all of our volunteers and to support greater community empowerment.”
