One Household, One Waste Bin Campaign moves to next stage
25 November 2016
Next week sees the final phase of the ‘One Household, One Waste Bin’ campaign aimed at informing householders that they should only have one bin for their waste unless it has been applied for and authorised.
Households identified as having extra unauthorised bins have already been notified by two separate tags being placed on their extra bin. From next week, the additional bins will be removed if presented for collection.
The move comes in advance of new kerbside waste and recycling service that will come into effect in March 2017. This will see existing 240 litre general waste bins become a mixed recycling bin replacing the box and bags currently used for recycling. Residents will also be provided with new 180 litre general waste bins when the programme is rolled out.
The new recycling bins mean householders will be able to recycle a wider range of materials at the kerbside than they can at present, including plastic pots, tubs and trays and food and drink cartons. More information about the changes will be sent to householders early in the New Year.
Councillor Jean Morrison, Zero Waste Sub-committee convener, said: “Next week marks an important milestone in our aims to meet ambitious targets set by Zero Waste Scotland and also to strive to meet the Council’s recycling targets and send less waste to landfill.
“It’s important that we get this right and that everyone plays their part in contributing to a Zero Waste Aberdeen. That is why we are making multi-million investments in Materials Recycling and Energy from Waste facilities to significantly improve waste management in the City and allow the new service changes to be implemented. ”.
In-cab technology allows waste removal crews to identify households which have had two notifications about presenting extra bins that are not authorised and so remove their second bins.
Householders who wish to have an authorised second bin and who meet the criteria can find out how to apply by visiting http://www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/waste/news/waste_news_general_waste.asp
