Public to have their say on Best Bar None

29 September 2016

Voting is now (Thursday 29 September) open for the public to choose their favourite pub, bar, nightclub or specialist entertainment venue in Aberdeen.

Aberdeen’s Best Bar None awards are once again giving revellers the opportunity to vote for their favourite premises via the People’s Choice award.

Votes can be cast via the Aberdeen Community Safety Partnership’s Twitter and Facebook pages - @CSPAberdeen and facebook.com/CSPAberdeen.

Aberdeen City Council Deputy Leader and Licensing Board Convenor Councillor Marie Boulton said: “Best Bar None is a fantastic venture which helps to ensure that customers receive the best possible experience whilst in licensed premises.

“The People’s Choice award allows members of the public to give their stamp of approval to the venue they think provides not only a great night out, but a safe environment.

“These businesses play a huge part in the local economy and I urge as many people as possible to show their support by voting for their favourite venue.”

Voting will close on Wednesday 12 October and the winner will be announced at the tenth annual Best Bar None Awards on Tuesday 8 November at The Douglas Hotel, Aberdeen.

Shopsafe are sponsoring the People’s Choice Award and will offer the winner free radio hire for one year. Last year’s winner was Siberia Vodka bar on Belmont Street.

The Best Bar None initiative was launched 10 years ago and currently operates in 40 venues across Aberdeen city. It aims to create a safe and welcoming licensing environment across Aberdeen and to boost the night-time economy.

To gain accreditation premises are inspected by an independent assessor and judged on their efforts around the prevention of crime & disorder, securing public safety, prevention of public nuisance, promotion of public health and the protection of children from harm.

The scheme is co-ordinated by Aberdeen City Council in partnership with Police Scotland, NHS Grampian and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

In addition to BBN accreditation and the People’s Choice category, awards will also be handed out for the Best Public Health Initiative, Heart of the Community and the Purple Flag Award in partnership with Aberdeen Inspired.
