Report commissioned for new Tillydrone school campus

A report to decide upon the best option for a proposed new school campus in Tillydrone – incorporating a nursery, a replacement building for St Peter’s School and a non-denominational school – was commissioned by councillors today (Thursday 8 September).

Aberdeen City Council’s Education and Children’s Services Committee have instructed council officers to prepare the report which will evaluate ground conditions at two possible sites, St Machar Park and St Machar School and propose the best value option. The report’s findings will then be put to a full council meeting.

Existing primary schools in the area are operating at near full capacity, or in the case of St Peter’s, at 150% capacity. With new housing being built in the area, the school age population is expected to grow still further.

Angela Taylor, Convener of the Education and Children’s Services Committee at Aberdeen City Council said: “An evaluation report will help us ensure that we take the right decision in securing the site for an expanded and sustainable provision of primary school education in Tillydrone.

“We have asked officers to come back with a report by 6 October outlining the best solution.

“We have the potential to create 200 new nursery school places and so meet the expanded early year’s learning and childcare services target required of every Scottish local authority by 2020”.
