Rob Roy Bridge and Kennerty Road closures

Two road closures are to take place over the next few days on the A93 at Peterculter including the historic Rob Roy Bridge as part of its £530,000 reconstruction.

Kennerty Road is being resurfaced at the same time resurfacing is taking place on the bridge.

Due to the resurfacing, Kennerty Road, between its junctions with Kennerty Mills Road and Millside Street, will be closed from 6am on Thursday 2 February 2017 until 6pm on Friday 3 February 2017.

There will be an alternative route via Millside Street, North Deeside Road, Station Road East, Burnside Road and Kennerty Mills Road.

Rob Roy Bridge will be closed due to resurfacing works from 6am on Saturday 4 February 2017 until 6pm on Sunday 5 February 2017.

Diversion signs will be in place to advise alternate routes.

An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman said: “We apologise for any inconvenience to motorists while these essential works are being carried out to the bridge and Kennerty Road.

“We hope to avoid as much disruption as possible and will aim to open the bridge earlier if all goes to plan. Motorists should note these dates are provisional and subject to change.”

The original masonry arch is circa 1800 and the arch beam/column north section is circa 1920. The works involve the demolition of the reinforced concrete section of the bridge, which will be rebuilt to modern standards.

Emergency vehicles will be able to cross under supervision when the bridge is closed and pedestrians will be allowed across at all times for access to, for example, the restaurant.

The works to the bridge were coordinated to take place at the same time along with the programme of works for the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route to keep disruption to the travelling public to a minimum.

The work on the bridge should be finished mid-February, and this will be dependent on the weather allowing the final concrete pours to progress.
