Second Hydrogen Refueling station takes shape

A hydrogen plant was delivered yesterday (Monday 27 June) to Aberdeen’s second hydrogen refuelling station. As the ACHES (Aberdeen City Hydrogen Energy Storage) site is taking shape the station will allow for cars, vans and buses to refuel.

The plant has been delivered to the south of the city site at Langdykes Road, Cove, and will take a few weeks for construction completion. Aberdeen City Council own the site however will be operated by Hydrogenics when it is due to open autumn 2016.

The facility will have four electric recharging points and will also have training facilities on site, allowing the opportunities within the hydrogen supply chain to be investigated. In addition, Aberdeen City Council will work alongside local businesses in creating new hydrogen related products and services.

Aberdeen City Council’s lead councillor for hydrogen Barney Crocket: “The station will further help us work towards our aim of developing a hydrogen economy in the region. With Aberdeen being home to Europe’s largest fleet of hydrogen fuel cell buses it is important we continue to explore this avenue.”

The ACHES site follows the success of Aberdeen’s first hydrogen refuelling station at Kittybrewster. The hydrogen bus fleet will continue to refuel at the Kittybrewster station.
