Section of A944 road reduced to 40mph
24 January 2017
The last section of the A944 road has been reduced from 50mph to 40mph after recommendations were agreed by councillors on the Communities, Housing and Infrastructure committee today.
The new speed limit affects the A944 between its junctions with the Kingswells and Green Hedges ‘Switchback’ roundabouts, the A944 Lang Stracht and the B9119 Skene Road, and it means there is now a consistent limit between Westhill and the point of the existing 30mph speed limits on the Lang Stracht and Skene Road.
The report said these roads are classed as a suburban distributor road, and when considering current national guidance for road speeds, they would now be deemed more suitable for a mandatory speed limit of 40mph.
Aberdeen City Council Communities, Housing and Infrastructure convener Councillor Neil Cooney said: “There are new housing developments proposed nearby and along with the 40mph speed limit near Westhill and on other parts of the A944, it makes sense to reduce this last 50mph section to 40mph.”
