Stoneywood School’s Gael Ross in running for national Head Teacher of the Year

Stoneywood School Head Teacher Gael Ross has made the final shortlist of three for the Scottish Education Award’s Head Teacher of the Year. .

Ms Ross, who has been Head Teacher for three years, was nominated by colleagues, pupils and parents for the prestigious award the winner of which will be announced at a glittering ceremony in Glasgow on Wednesday 7 June.

Ms Ross’ nomination highlighted her helping Stoneywood School to win two of Aberdeen City Council’s Children and Young People’s Services Awards and achieve its Sports Scotland Silver School Sport Award in 2016. Her exemplary leadership was cited as a key strength of the school in an Education Scotland Care Inspectorate report in 2015.

Numerous comments from pupils, staff and parents in the nomination touched upon Ms Ross making the school a happier place, her charity work and her approachability, enthusiasm and kindness.

Gayle Gorman, Aberdeen City Council’s Director of Education and Children’s Services said: “We are absolutely delighted for Gael to receive this well-deserved nomination. The high regard in which she is held is there for all to see and we join everyone in wishing her the best of luck for the awards ceremony”.

Gael said: “It is an absolute honour and privilege to work with the pupils, parents and staff of Stoneywood School. Every day is exciting, bringing new challenges which we face together. I am overwhelmed by the continued support and the nomination for Head Teacher of the Year came as a complete surprise.

Ms Ross was also one of 20 Scottish Leaders in Education chosen for a Japan Study Tour in February this year.
