The Flying Scotsman and The Beastie – An evening with cycling legend Graeme Obree
04 May 2017
Scottish cycling legend, double world hour record holder and world 4-kilometre pursuit champion Graeme Obree will host an evening session at Aberdeen Central Library on Thursday 25 May as part of the city's Tour Series celebrations.
The Flying Scotsman will be talking about his cycling experiences including his Hour Record and what it takes to go from a club rider to the best in the world - all the while fuelled by jam pieces!
There will also be a unique opportunity to see the fastest prone bike in the world, affectionately named The Beastie by Sir Chris Hoy.
Graeme said: “I am really looking forward to my trip to Aberdeen and sharing some insight and a few stories from my cycling career. It sounds as if the city is really embracing the visit of The Tour Series and I am sure it will be a great evening’s racing which will help to inspire more people onto their bikes to experience the freedom and exhilaration of cycling”.
Booking is essential for this free event, which will run from 5.30pm. To book your ticket, please email libraryevents@aberdeencity.gov.uk or call 01224 652500.
The Tour Series is being brought to the city as part of the wider Aberdeen 365 Events Strategy, a City Centre Masterplan initiative.
As Aberdeen is gearing up to host the eighth round of The Tour Series on Thursday 25 May, the centre of Aberdeen will be transformed into a cycling hub.
The 1.2-kilometre circuit around the compact city centre will provide a stunning backdrop to a fast and furious night of criterium racing, which involves completing a number of laps.
From 12.30pm in Union Terrace Gardens, there will be a host of free fun-filled activities for all to enjoy at the Cycling Activity Village. Live performances from The Clan Cycle Stunt Team, historic bike displays, bike health checks and a Get About Roadshow are just some of the activities available to enjoy. The local cycling community, including shops and clubs, will also be on hand to talk all things cycling.
