ToBi goes on Tour

03 May 2017

As Aberdeen is gearing up to host the eight round of The Tour Series, ToBi the mascot has been having fun with the next generation of city cyclists during visits to six city schools.

ToBi was welcomed to Gilcomstoun School; Culter Primary School; Hazelhead Primary school; Stoneywood Primary school; Middleton Park and Skene Square Primary.

ToBi was on hand to tell pupils about the plans to transform the city centre into a cycling hub, with lots of activities taking place from 12.30pm on Thursday 25 May leading up to the elite race taking place at 7.30pm.

All pupils were invited personally by ToBi to come along to the event and cheer from the sidelines as 50 professional cyclists whizz round the heart of the city.

The elite athletes will tackle an hour-long race as they weave around a challenging combination of cobbled streets and tight turns, racing to the finishing line at Union Street, battling it out to be crowned Britain’s top team.

ToBi also specially selected 11 junior age children to be mascots for the day. The pupils will be tasked with exclusive roles such as go on the podium, do a line-up prior to the elite race and take part in the final presentation.

Prior to the elite race getting underway, ToBi is inviting all, whether a novice or a high achiever in Bike Ability to celebrate all things cycling in Union Terrace Gardens. From 12.30pm there will be a host of free fun-filled activities for all to enjoy – including the The Clan Cycle Stunt Team, bike health checks with local bike companies on hand as well as the opportunity to take a step back in time and see Penny-farthings. ToBi will also be there on day get involved in all the action.
